How long does freeze-dried food last?

It depends on the type of food and how it is stored.  Air, sunlight, and moisture aid in the spoliage process.  Candy already is preserved for longer periods by the ingredients used to make them where as the produce will rapidly spoil in its natural state.  If stored in mylar bags with all moisture and air removed by the freeze-drying process and utilizing oxygen absorbers; the freeze-dried produce can last up to 25 years.  Our clear faced bags are set up for store front purposes and allow light to penetrate lessening the life of the food.  We still seal our clear faced bags and place an oxygen absorber inside to remove all the air.  We are also working to fufill bulk orders for people utilizing the mylar bag process lengthing the longevity of the food.

How long does your freeze-dried produce last once we open the bags?

It depends on how you still store the food.  If you open the bags to eat the freeze-dried produce and close the bag, it will still last for a long period.  The sizes of the bags we are currently selling are meant for quicker consumption.  The mylar bags we will sell in the future will last for years unopened.  Because we do not add any additional ingredients or preservatives to our products, if you leave the freeze-dried produce outside the bag it was sold in or without an oxygen absorber; the food will begin to naturally absorb the moisture in the air and no longer be freeze-dried.  This process can take as little time as a couple of days.  We recommend keeping the food sealed in the bag it was purchased in with the original oxygen absorber.  It is important to note that the oxygen absorbers will generally lose their ability to absorb the surrounding air in the bag if left exposed to the outside environment for about fifteen minutes.
